What IF Moon was replaced by Jupiter!

What If Moon was magically replaced by Jupiter?

Assuming Jupiter suddenly and magically replaces our moon with the same momentum, first thing it would happen is if you were looking to the moon in the sky, Jupiter suddenly would cover all your field of view. Just think the big red spot of Jupiter is much bigger than the Earth and the Moon is smaller than Earth. To put it in numbers, Jupiter is 41 times bigger than the Moon in diameter. Just imagine 41 moons in line in the sky and that is the diameter size Jupiter’s circumference would occupy in the Earth's sky.

This would be the image of what would we see through Earth:

if jupiter replaced the moon jupiter in place of moon jupiter planet how many moons moon for jupiter 0 degree jupiter

The Moon describes an orbit around Earth because it is trapped by Earth's gravity. It is similar to how an object attached to a wire describes circles around your hand when you spin it. But the moment the wire is broken, the object continues it's travel in a straight line escaping from your hand. Same thing would happen with Jupiter. The gravitational pull of puny planet Earth is insignificant for the Hulk of our Solar System, so Jupiter would immediately start to travel in a straight line from the point of the Moon orbit where it appeared ignoring completely the pull of Earth’s gravity.

But what about Earth? Well, if calculating the destiny of Jupiter is complicated, calculating the destiny of Earth is equally difficult. Since Jupiter was following the moon’s orbit, it would not collide with our planet but move away from it tangentially. But Jupiter gravity would of course pull Earth into whatever Jupiter’s direction is. Earth would become a satellite of Jupiter and, as in case 3, if Earth’s speed is not enough to mantain a stable orbit, it would fall into Jupiter's gravity well, causing it to collide with the giant planet. Or, if speed is enough, Earth would escape from Jupiter, wandering in space until the Sun’s gravity recaptures it. Again, the slingshot effect could enter into play here sending the Earth away from Jupiter.

Whatever the case, the most probable thing is Jupiter's radiation and tidal force would end all life on Earth leaving our planet sterilized. There will be much more larger tsunamis, which would wipe out everything and many countries would submerge into water. Even though if we survive this, volcanic eruptions would cover our earth atmosphere with toxic gases like sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. Eventually the whole living organisms would go extinct.
